Beirut

I have a friend who moved back last year with her husband. I had a colleague who retired last year and went back with her son. I had a good colleague whose kids and their families are there. These are not poor people. Maybe they and their families are safe, but they have lost much. They have lost their dreams. And my heart goes out to them. And what about all the other innocents caught in the middle? The ones who have lost their lives and their hopes for a better world. The root of this tragedy can’t lie in religion. More and more, I’m thinking it’s all about ego, about losing face, while in the background the various puppetmakers pull their strings.
