Despite no longer being in Geneva, I still follow the latest happenings at the Swiss romande PEN Centre. Pamela Taylor has just filed an interesting report on the latest meeting. A quote from the last line: “China, the sleeping giant, is now awake and much of the world may already be trembling. … what the West should fear more is its own complacency and complicity.”
There’s that word “complacency” again, now coupled with “complicity”. Scary bedfellows!
