Living in a ryokan and sending one of my first stories to Yomimono and finding an acceptance postcard under my door.  I’d just started writing fiction. The owner of my local bistro served forbidden fugu and rewarded me for daring to try it with a rare (because of being a couple) Tanaki gift, apparently useful for fertility.
